Brandon Flowers is a husband, a father, a Mormon, and the lead singer of the alternative band “The Killers,” who is set to release his second solo album on May 19.

Much of Flowers’ album is related to his membership in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and he attributes his success as a musician to his active lifestyle in the faith. While he had his share of trials to overcome, it was his faith in the gospel that carried him through.

Flowers says his album was influenced by “the dynamic between a man and a woman as you get older, and not being afraid to go into that territory, and the responsibilities of being a dad and a husband, and not being prepared for that,'” reported The Daily Beast.

Flowers recently released a music video to “Can’t Deny My Love” – a single from his new album. The video documents Flowers as a pioneer on a trek symbolic of his personal journey to a reaffirmation of his Mormon faith.

As ‘The Killers’ got their start, seemingly instant fame came into their lives and, along with it came temptations and stereotypes that seem to plague the music industry.

“It’s so attractive when you’re young,” Flowers told The Daily Beast. “You hear the stories and all the rock ’n’ roll mythology, so it’s all there in the palms of your hands. It’s enticing. I never went to rehab or anything, but I drank and smoked.”

Flowers eventually decided that a life of smoking and drinking was not one he wanted to live, and that he was ready to reconcile his Mormon faith.

“When I stopped smoking and drinking, instantly the shows started getting better,” said Flowers. “I sang better, I had more longevity, and I felt better. Being committed to my wife and family, I can’t think of a downside to it. There are people in the past who’ve done the sex, drugs, and rock ’n’ roll thing and made it happen for them, but I knew even when I was young that that wasn’t going to work out for me.”

Of quitting his drinking and smoking habits, Flowers said:

You’re more yourself, and you’re more wholesome. I believe in God, so I believe it’s the way that He intended us to be.

Flowers is grateful he was able to find his way back. “I’m really happy,” he said. “I would suggest my route to others.”
