As a teenager, Emily Punjack loved flipping through teen magazines, like Seventeen, but could never truly relate to them.

With much of the images displayed in magazines featuring immodest clothing, Punjack, a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, hoped that one day a magazine would exist that aligned with her values of modesty.

KSL reports that after graduating from Brigham Young University with an editing degree, Punjack decided to take creating a modest fashion magazine into her own hands. Celestial Shine Magazine provides articles on dating, boys, and fashion that Latter-day Saint girls can relate to. In addition to providing fun articles for youth to read, Punjack says that Celestial Shine also “brings in a spiritual part and shows how the gospel is interesting and applicable to their lives.”

Punjack, editor-in-chief for the magazine, explains the content, saying,

We’ve had things on how to cope with bullying, there’s one about how to resist peer pressure, then I’ve had some articles from seminary teachers about the living water and the Atonement. We try to do real-life issues the girls are dealing with.

Latter-day Saint youth also write some of the articles included in the teen magazine, and every picture only features images of individuals wearing modest clothing.

Punjack has published three digital issues of Celestial Shine since she launched the magazine online a year ago. Punjack hopes to publish a monthly issue and eventually have it published in print. In order to achieve this goal, Punjack has set up a GoFundMe account to raise $10,000 to cover the cost of printing.

The next edition of the magazine will feature former American Idol contestant, Latter-day Saint Carmen Rasmusen Herbert, who tells about her sticking to her standards while living in Hollywood.
