LDS.net’s Mormon Minute recaps LDS news that happened during the week in the Mormon world. This week, we talk about: two temples that will be dedicated this summer, the passing of a missionary serving in Mexico, and indexing inmates.
0:09 – Temple Dedications Summer 2015
The Church announced that it will dedicate the Trujillo, Peru and Indianapolis, Indiana temples this upcoming summer. Both temples will also have an open house in the weeks leading up to their dedications. These newly dedicated temples will bring the total number of operating temples to one-hundred and forty-eight temples worldwide.
0:27 – Missionary Passes Away
A missionary serving in Yucatan, Mexico passed away this week unexpectedly while playing soccer with ward members in his area. Elder McBride was in his second year of service and was in good health. Officials say the cause was a heart attack. His family hopes to have the funeral this weekend, and our thoughts and prayers go out to his friends and family.
0:47 – Inmates Indexing
And hundreds of inmates are volunteering their time to help with family history work. During 2014, they indexed over seven million records and some even worked on completing their personal family history work. The director of the Wasatch Utah facility says that doing family history work has given the inmates a new perspective. The program began in 2012 with only nine jails participating, and now that number has jumped to thirty-two.
