This morning, Kevin J. Worthen was inaugurated as the new president of Brigham Young University. President Worthen is now the 13th president of BYU and served as BYU’s advancement vice president.
President Worthen officially began his tenure on May 1st, 2014, as he succeeded Dr. Cecil O. Samuelson who worked as the president of BYU for 11 years.
Henry B. Eyring, first counselor of the First Presidency in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as well as the First Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees, installed President Worthen and spoke during the inauguration.

According to BYU News, BYU’s Associate International Vice President, Erlend Peterson remarked concerning the event,
It’s a simple ceremony, it’s almost like a marriage—you just say a few words that make it binding. But it’s probably the most significant event at BYU of the decade.
