Yesterday the Sistas in Zion were featured in an MSNBC Originals video.

Tamu Smith and Zandra Vranes are the authors of “Diary of Two Mad Black Mormons” and are the founders of the Sistas in Zion website and podcast dedicated to open dialogue about the Church and the humor of Mormon culture.  In the video they talk about their lives as members of the Church who strive to speak out about the Church from an “honest place.”

The Sistas strive to represent black women in a Church and a subculture that is often accused of repressing diversity.

“If we don’t tell our own story, if we don’t tell the real story, we do leave it open for misconceptions,” Smith and Vranes said in their video.  “We’re really just being honest.  We’re mad.  We’re black.  We’re Mormon.”
