On Monday, the Supreme Court in British Columbia banned one of the most well known polygamy groups in Canada from using any name associated with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
The order prohibits the group who is run by Winston Blackmore and James Oler from using the Church’s official name; The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, or any other similar names that would create confusion such as Latter-day Saints, or Mormon.
According to Global News, LDS Church spokesman Eric Hawkins says “the church is pleased with the decision that protects its interests and reduces confusion.”
In August Winston faced charges of polygamy and Oler and two others were charged with the unlawful removal of children from Canada. The group currently resides in Bountiful, British Columbia.
