Young Women’s General President Bonnie Oscarson participated on an interfaith panel as part of the 2014 Girl Scouts convention held on Thursday, October 16th in Salt Lake City.
The topic of the panel was the impact of faith on the lives of young women and girls. Present for the panel discussion were leaders from other faiths, including Catholic, Jewish, and Muslim representatives. The panel was moderated by Davia Temin, first vice president of the national board of the Girl Scouts of America. According to Temin, surveys of the Girl Scouts show that faith plays an important role in the lives of many of its members. Temin expressed the Girl Scouts’ commitment to supporting diversity within the organization.
Sister Oscarson said that it was possible to have faith without belonging to a religious organization, but because Christ started a church it is important to follow His example and belong to one.
On an added note, on Sunday Lloyd Newell delivered an address based on the life story of Girl Scouts’ founder Juliette Gordon Low for Music and the Spoken Word.
