Boyd K. Packer Passes Away at 90 Years Old

President Boyd K. Packer, the President of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, passed away at Friday, July 3, 2015, at about 2 p.m. in his home. President Packer was 90 years old.

President Packer is survived by his wife Donna, 10 children, 60 grandchildren, and 103 great grandchildren.

Born in Brigham City in 1924, President Packer made a career in construction and The Church Education System before being called as an assistant to the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles in 1961.  He was later called into the Quorum of Twelve Apostles in 1970. He served as the acting President of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles from 1994 until 2008, and as President of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles from 2008 until his passing.

President Packer enjoyed painting, sketching, and making wood carvings of birds. He will be remembered by members of the Church for his elaborate gospel metaphors and powerful testimony. You can read a biography of President Packer’s life at LDS.net.

President Packer will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and members of the Church around the world.
