My name is Liam I'm 19 and I'm visiting my Grandfather for little while. I'm Lds but he's Catholic and I don't hold anything against him for that but he says the lords name in vain like 50 times a day. It gets me so angry and I wanna say something but its just usually when I try to get my point across I get mad and I know the spirit of contention is of the devil that alone keeps me cool. I just want to know how others impart to one another cuz its hard trying to tell someone who's 74 years old that he shouldn't do something.

I usually, when someone takes the Lord's name in vain, ask them questions, like "I'm afraid I don't know what Jesus Christ has to do with you being disappointed in your football team's performance. Can you explain?"

If he's 74, you'll probably have to do it again. And again. And again. Because he's had decades of time to build that as a habit.

Or you could just tell him once and accept that he's going to mess up again and again.

Ask your grandfather, "Do you know how much it hurts me when I hear people taking the Lord's name in vain?"  (Avoid using the word "you," which can be confrontational.)

If he answers with something like, "Liam, you shouldn't be upset over something so little and I can't change anyway," then can you get your mother or father to help you?

I think it's great that you are bothered by this and are seeking a way to fix it.  I used to work with people from another part of the Anglosphere (I won't mention any specific countries) who took the Lord's name in vain as often as I blinked my eyes.  I was very uncomfortable around them.

Good luck...
