Emily Dickinson fans?

So many wonderful poets out there, but she is one of my favorites. I love her "The Soul Selects Her Own Society" and "There is No Frigate Like a Book..." I almost wrote my MA thesis on her.

I learned from Achewood that since this poem [Because I Could Not Stop for Death] is in ballad meter, it can be sung to the tune of Gilligan's Island. Since then, try as I might, I haven't ONCE been able to read it normally.

Emily Dickinson or Sara Teasdale?

 

Now while my lips are living 

Their words must stay unsaid, 

And will my soul remember 

To speak when I am dead?

I love Sara Teasdale, but she inevitably leaves me sad. Dickinson is less depressive, more wistful and philosophical.

Exactly. I once heard someone call the poems of Dickinson "daggers' and my goodness that's a perfect description.

 

I also like Teasdale.
