Best Temple Educational Resources?

When I lived in St. George, I was five minutes from the temple (it's the only time I've lived that close to a temple).  During that time, I attended the temple weekly...and insights began to come to me through that regular attendance.

I realize that is not something all of us can do.  I can't do it now...the temple is 45 min. away (each way).  But still it was the best temple education experience I have had.  :)

What resources were the most helpful for you before you went to the temple?  (Or after too).

By far, the most helpful resource for me has been actually going to the temple. No book or lecture or class can hold a candle to continuously reexperiencing the actual thing. In that, it's like scripture reading: No class or book can substitute or even really compare with experiencing the thing itself.

I definitely agree with temple attendance. It's been about a month since I went to the temple for myself, and I've already gone about six times. The temple is at least a 2 hour drive (one way), but it has been worth it. I'm lucky that my grandparents live 30 minutes away from the KC temple, so I've had the opportunity to go there a few times while visiting as well.

I would also say that I've got a lot of information and insight from The Holy Temple by Boyd K. Packer. Much of the first few chapters are used in the temple prep pamphlet that was given to me by my branch president while I was preparing to go to the temple myself. He also gives a lot of information on ancient temples and the restoration.

Wow! I wish the Preston Temple was only 45 minutes away, would be there several times a week if it was!

You must have a lot more discretionary time than I do.

Different times and seasons of life.

Temple prep is good.

Go to the temple often.  Ask questions when prompted.  Everyone there is at your service to help.

Study things that are closely related to temple worship.  The books of Exodus and Moses are great.

Go often with purpose.  Try to learn something new every time.  Pray to learn something new and it will happen.

The Old Testament is full of information about the temple. My father was a temple worker when I went to the temple for the first time, but I still don't feel like I was well prepared.

If I had taken a course about ancient temple practices it would have made a difference to me. I think people need to better understand the use of symbols and rituals in sacred teachings, especially in the ancient temples. Then it will not be such a surprise when they are taught with spiritual symbolism and participate in the sacred rituals that are used in the Lord's temples today.

Much of that symbolism and ritual can be taught right out of the Old Testament when you have a knowledgeable person to help you.

I can't personally vouch for this book, since I haven't read it, but I came across mention of it earlier this week, it has over 150 online reviews, and apparently averages what looks like 5 out of 5 stars from those who have read it.

Has anyone here read it? If so, thoughts?
