New Permission Rules for People Born Within 110 Years

The church has strengthened its policy for submitting names of those who are born within 110 years.  This impacts people doing their very close relatives, like grandparents.

As you know, permission from closest family members is required before requesting ordinances for people born within the last 110 years. In the past, you simply clicked a button to indicate your relationship and who you had received permission from. This process has now changed, and you must supply more information when requesting ordinances for deceased people born within the last 110 years. In addition, these requests must be reviewed by Church administration, so you need to allow sufficient time for the review process.

++++++++++++++

You must either be one of the closest living relatives, or you must obtain permission from one of the closest living relatives. If you are not a spouse, child, or sibling of the deceased, please obtain permission from one of the closest living relatives before doing the ordinances. The closest living relatives are: an undivorced spouse (the spouse to whom the individual was married when he or she died), an adult child, a parent, or a brother or sister.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

 Permission Process. When you try to request ordinances for someone born within 110 years, a screen appears that asks your relationship to the deceased person, who you got permission from and their relationship, and their contact information (phone or email). The Church may contact them. .......... You cannot print the request form (or have cards printed) until the request has been reviewed and approved.

It then goes on and suggests how to approach nonLDS relatives.

Anyway, it appears to me that temple work has increasing become a target of the critics of the church.  The media has picked up on that, that we are "baptizing the dead into the Mormon church."  Just one more of those weird Mormon beliefs.

FANTASTIC!!!!

This is a great and *much* needed thing.

Oh I totally agree.   I just want a link that I can refer people to that explains this new policy or change.

I remember a Star Trek: Next Generation episode (yes, I must with chagrin admit to having watched many of those episodes) that must have started life as a fanfic, involving people from the late 20th or early 21st century who had died and immediately been preserved and shot into space, only to be revived by Dr. Redhead. It was, um, pretty much as dumb as it sounds.

But the point is: At one point, the headstrong former CEO/rich guy gets on the Enterprise's shipwide PA system to demand the captain to do something or other for him. The captain is appalled, and so is everyone else, so the guy says, "If it's so sensitive, why isn't it restricted?" To which the others respond with something like, "People know what they are and are not allowed to do, and they abide by those restrictions without being forced." Almost Joseph-Smithian.

I am disappointed that we as Saints seem unable to abide by our own laws and rules, such that we need to be compelled to do what has already been clearly spelled out for us on numerous occasions. I think it's too darn bad that such a system has to be installed. But given the realities of our fallen world and our imperfect fellow Saints, I suppose it's inevitable, and thus a good thing that something has been put in place.

I teach at the local FH center, and provide handouts for everyone.  It is sad that I have to include the line "please don't lie while doing temple work"

I've been searching and searching and I can't find where this was announced.  So yes a link would definitely help.

Pam, once you are in FamilySearch and you wish to submit a name to the Temple, THAT is where you will find it.

My little sister has submitted names of distant relatives who still have living family members who are NOT LDS, actually the living relatives are extremely ANTI-LDS. Prior to this new policy, she lied to FamilySearch.

I have told the church via FamilySearch what she has done, I have given them the names, address's and phone numbers of the living relatives in case they want to contact them. In the last letter I received from FamilySearch - they have removed the ordinance work from all of the relatives she has submitted, they have blocked her from entering and requesting any more AND they have requested that she provide them with documentation (written) permission from the living relatives giving the Church permission to do the ordinance work.

Too many members of the church are liars. My little sister is a consummate liar. She was one before her baptism, and will continue to be one until the day she dies. As far as I am concerned, this new policy should actually read: We will not proceed and allow names to be submitted UNTIL we have written permission from the living next of kin, regardless if they are LDS or not.

My two older sisters alienated our Uncles, Aunts, In-Laws, cousins, nieces & nephews, shortly after they themselves were baptized when they were teens. Every member a Missionary - bah! Every member has not been through the proper training and given the holy mantel that missionaries have gone through and have been given. My sisters shoved their new religion down their throats, and when they were rejected, their response was: Well you are going to Hades then,

It has taken me the better part of 30 years to rebuild relationships with these relatives. Because I am an active member of the LDS church, and they know it - I wrote out and signed an agreement to NEVER submit their deceased loved ones names to have the LDS church do the temple proxy work.

When I first discovered what my little sister was doing nearly 8 years ago - there wasn't anything I could do to stop her. Talking to her did no good. Talking to her Bishop was even less productive. Once a name was submitted to the Temple, there was no way to un-submit it.

Now she is stopped. I am still keeping track of the names - to make sure she doesn't falsify permissions - which I don't doubt she will do.

Vort, have you ever wondered why the lockers in the Temples have locks on them?? Because LDS members are not really Saints. They are human, thus they are liars, cheats, connivers, manipulators, etc. It is sad that not all off the LDS members are honest & trust worthy. That will only happen after the second coming of Christ ~ in the eternities.

I am a family history consultant, and receive the Family History newsletter

THE ROAD TO THE TEMPLE

Volume 4 Number 8 Aug / 2015

Seems to be written by the editors of the newsletter rather than an official statement by the church, but that's all I know about it.

and here we are talking about family history as a motivation for LDS saints to lie. Dont get me started on the greed of money and the numurous of MLM companys that sweep through our wards and destroy family/ member relations, or one particular Bishop in Draper Utah that used his office for recruiting investors into his ponsi scheme and yes even in the celestial room of the temple is where he did some of his sales pitching. I was one of his victims.

What is that line Christ used on the Pharisees? Something about their lips drawing close to God but not their hearts?

Sometimes I am amazed at our own weakness. But then I remember all of the things I have done and realize I number right there with them. Thank God for the atonement! Thank God for the Christ!
