Some friends of ours asked me and my husband to perform a song at their wedding in May. I'll be singing and my husband will be accompanying on guitar.

This will be the first time I've sung at a wedding and I want the song to be lovely. However, everytime I think of a song to perform I realize it contains inappropriate lyrics or it's too depressing or something like that... lol

Please, everyone!! I need some ideas!! :)

Our friends said they are happy for us to perform any song as long as it is suitable for a wedding at Church... :) (But not necessarily church songs only though)

Any good song suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!! :)

Thanks!

Paul Stookey's The Wedding Song is my favorite.

YouTube - THE WEDDING SONG (There Is Love)
Jesus said, "The first in importance is, love the Lord God.'
And here is the second: 'Love others as well as you love yourself.'
There is no other commandment that ranks with these."

I sang this song at a friend's wedding, and it turned out nicely, even though I am not the best singer in the world!!

Good Luck!!

My sister-in-law-to-be sang this at my wedding. Not sure if it would be right for you, it has the word wine in it. But it's still a lovely song.

Today
(Words and Music by Minstrels' leader Randy Sparks)

Today while the blossoms still cling to the vine
I'll taste your strawberries, I'll drink your sweet wine
A million tomorrows shall all pass away
Ere I forget all the joy that is mine today.

Now I'll be a dandy, and I'll be a rover.
You'll know who I am by the song that I sing.
I'll feast at your table, I'll sleep in your clover.
Who cares what tomorrow shall bring.

I can't be contented with yesterday's glory.
I can't live on promises, winter to spring.
Today is my moment, and now is my story.
I'll laugh and I'll cry and I'll sing.

Today while the blossoms still cling to the vine
I'll taste your strawberries, I'll drink your sweet wine
A million tomorrows shall all pass away
Ere I forget all the joy that is mine today.

I'd rather be a could-be if I cannot be an are; because a could-be is a maybe who - is reaching for a star. I'd rather be a has-been than a might-have-been, by far; for a might have-been has never been, but a has was once an are. - Milton Berle

Sound, balanced teaching is a must. Our default should be to partake. Our default should be to live in joy, not condemnation. Our default should be to love, not to correct, to encourage, not to criticize. (Quote from prisonchaplain)

This is an absolutely wonderful song. The New Christy Minstrels were great.

I've sang this at a wedding before....

Grow old along with me
The best is yet to be
When our time has come
We will be as one
God bless our love
God bless our love

Grow old along with me
Two branches of one tree
Face the setting sun
When the day is done
God bless our love
God bless our love

Spending our lives together
Man and wife together
World without end
World without end

Grow old along with me
Whatever fate decrees
We will see it through
For our love is true
God bless our love
God bless our love

Here's the perfect song for a Mormon wedding, hoping that it's the first wedding for both bride and groom.

Savage Garden - I Knew I Loved You

I've been to a few weddings where The Lord's Prayer was sung. It's probably best though with a piano accompaniment.

Oh, come on, I can't believe nobody's mentioned 'wind beneath my wings' yet. It's pure sappiness. Not that I would want it at my wedding, though.

There's also "I cross my heart" by George Stait

There's also the song that was sung at my first wedding

If you're looking to go more Churchy, try "Where Love Is" from the Children's Songbook. With a good guitar and vocals, it doesn't sound like a Primary song.

Hear my music and download the sheet music for free at NathanHoweMusic.com.

Marc Cohn's True Companion Too lazy to give a link, but it's easy to find! This was the song we danced to at our wedding. True Companion lyrics Baby I’ve been searching like everyone else Can’t say nothing different about myself Sometimes I’m an angel And sometime I’m cruel And when it comes to love I’m just another fool Yes I’ll climb a mountain I’m gonna swim the sea There ain’t no act of God girl Could keep you safe from me My arms are reaching out Out across the canyon I’m asking you to be my true companion True companion True companion So don’t you dare and try to walk away I’ve got my heart set on our wedding day I’ve got this vision of a girl in white Made my decision that it’s you allright And when I take your hand I’ll watch my heart set sail I’ll take my trembling fingers And I’ll lift up you veil Then I’ll take you home And with wild abandon Make love to you just like a true companion You are my true companion True companion When the years have done Irreparable harm I can see us walking slowly arm in arm Just like that couple on the corner do ‘Cause girl I will always be in love with you And when I look in your eyes I’ll still see that spark Until the shadows fall Until the room grows dark Then when I leave this Earth I’ll be with the angels standin’ I’ll be out there waiting For my true companion True companion True companion
