Gjh1960's Achievements

  1. If 2 persons of different sex do the same bad thing (maybe even together), I strongly dislike the notion that for one of them a worse word is used than for the other. Therefore while I do not entirely agree with your choice of words, I have to admit that I agree a 100 percent with what you said.
  2. Tough question. What made your husband start this relationship with his colleague - and more important: what made him come back to you? Imho it's all about love and commitment. If he loves you and is determined to be true to you no matter how attractive, interested etc any other woman around him may ever be, you won't need to worry. If there's a lack of love for and/or commitment to you, you can't trust him anyhow, because a good marriage can't be founded merely on the lack of other opportunities. Nevertheless, he may want to proof his commitment by accepting his responsibility for you and the child by deciding for a job that provides for his family rather than for his pleasure. For sure, in order to proof anything, this has to be his decision in the end.
  3. It said I'm INTJ and this doesn't sound entirely wrong. But i've to admit I didn't read the descriptions of the other 15, so i don't know whether there's an even better fit.
  4. No unclean, unholy being can exist in the presence of god. We all are born on this earth with both a longing to return to Him and an inability to achieve this on our own as we cannot avoid sin for all our life nor become clean again without external help. The atonement is the Lords answer to this great dilemma, as it not only makes us clean, but also enables us to become transformed from the natural man to a child of god that wants to do good continually. Even more, the power of the atonement also enables us to endure and overcome everything bad that may happen in our lifes. As for your second question, it's nice to learn about the atonement from the scriptures or from talks and lessons or even from postings no the internet, but the only way for me to make progress towards a real understanding was to feel both at the same time, this longing for the presence of god and my perfect inadequacy and inability to achieve anything but damnation without His atonement.
  5. Even if there is evidence for Labans plates of brass outside the BoM, I'm afraid it would not stop or even convert a single critic of the church. It would be so easy for the Lord to come up with scientific proof for himself and his restored gospel. And yet he did not do it, but rather told us that the gospel can only be taught, witnessed and understood by the spirit. While many humans tend to prefer knowledge and scientific proof over belief, the Lord appears to clearly prefer our faith over our science based conviction. In fact, all the circumstances of the restoration from the first vision, the appearing of angels to the translation of the BoM by an unlearned farmboy using prophetic gifts are evidence for me that He wanted to challenge all modern day sceptics rather than convince them by means of science.
  6. Love your neighbor in thoughts, words and deeds and enjoy life no matter what happens.
  7. I've also seen new converts fall away rather quickly and suspected they never developed a testimony themselves - that faith brought them into church, nothing else. Still, I think that it's nearly impossible from the outside to discriminate faith and testimony clearly, and therefore I hesitate to generalize. Would generalisation not necessarily mean that all the people mentioned in church history like Sidney Rigdon and others who fell away after some years never had a real testimony either? A testimony can shrink and disappear, if it is not nourished properly, and how to proof afterwards that it even existed? You mentioned conversion and I think it's an essential aspect. I learned that for me, conversion is a lifelong process, and whenever I thought I'm already there and stopped moving (daily scripture study, personal prayer...), it weakened my testimony - and without continuing repentance I'd gone inactive in the end.
  8. When I investigated the church 25 years ago, my testimony was just good enough to bring me into church, but was definitely insufficient for an entire life of activity. My wife joined the church together with me and sustained me whenever I lacked faith or strength or understanding to go forward - and viceversa. This way we mastered all the roadblocks on the path so far.
  9. China changed its approach to economy considerably some years ago. Their political system may still be labeled socialism, but their actual economy is definitely capitalistic. They're practicing kind of hardcore capitalism in many areas of the country and that's where their money is from. I've always considered this change as perfect proof that their initial socialistic approach to economy failed. It's now up to us to proof that our western approach to economy does not fail either.
