  1. I did not mean any disrespect to any who might/may be offended. I have been an Investigator with the Church for almost 9 months, but I still have questions. This documentary just aroused that question-it made me think when Brigham I guess said that you "you can ask for me to give up my wealth, or my time but please dont make me do this". Thats all I was asking. Also..Soul_Searcher, I can understand where you are coming from here. At the same time I think this can be a dangerous thing. If we started picking and choosing to follow it could be bad in the end. For example if I decided to attend Sacrament Meeting every Sunday, but chose to ignore the Word of Wisdom that is going against a core teaching of the Church. That is a bit far streched but I hope you can see what I am getting at? lol I apologise to any, I have a hard time explaining what goes on in my head so it may sound confusing or weird. Tyler
  2. Hello everybody, Earlier today I was watching the 4 hour PBS documentary entitled "The Mormons". I thought it was an interesting documentary, although I feel that they could of touched more on some parts and less on others-such as polygamy and those who still practise it-as they are not even members of the church. Anywho my question comes on the bases of Joesph Smith calling polygamy into play. From my understanding it is that many members including Brigham Young were opposed to this idea. Smith had claimed that it was through Revelation that he had received this notion of putting polygamy back into use. Now comes my question..Do you think that Joseph made polygamy alright in the Church for selfish reasons? That perhaps he wanted to have polygamy so he could sleep with younger women? I know Joesph Smith is/was a Prophet of God, but nonetheless he is still a man-an imperfect being. Also say this happened in today's times, that we felt one of our leaders was doing something for personal reasons. Do we obey or what? I hope what I am getting at makes sense, and that my question can be answered. Thanks Tyler
  3. My dad is, there is still a base there and it is still big-the town is growing so I hear. It was a great place when I was young, but now a lot of my friends there have gotten into the bad stuff. So I am very thankful I moved on to bigger and better places :). Then again St Mary's was my 2nd choice for uni. Tyler
  4. Welcome Books to the forum. You are right, people here are quite friendly and helpful. Also I lived in Greenwood for 10 years so I have been to Halifax many a times :) Tyler
  5. just for clarification what is the "Canadian Book of Mormon Belt"? I never heard of that before. Thanks : ) Tyler
  6. I am a Canucks fan but we all know they did not make it this year. Next year for sure :). But I would like to see the penguins do it this yr, Sid the Kid deserves one in my opinion. I am tired of Det winning they have dominated the past decade or so of the NHL. Give somebody else a chance, its like the Pats in the NFL you know?
  7. I dont know if you are in college or high school or what but I know the feeling all too well. I graduate from high school on June 11th so I have something that us North Americans like to call "senioritis". Senioritis is the time after you have gotten into college and high school does not really matter much to you anymore. So you start not doing homework, putting off studying for a big test and next thing you know your marks start heading for D's. Some people( i dont know any) have had their offers of admission revoked because their marks are too low. Anyways my advice to you is pretty much you have to make yourself do the work. Yes it may not seem fun, and you could be doing better things but school is important. Education is a must in todays world. Anyways the only solution I can find is making yourself do the work when it is assigned. It will pay off in the end. Best of luck :) Tyler
  8. Ok I see this is your first post to first of all welcome to LDS.net this is a great place to find answers. Second of all I personally feel that it is not right for you to join the church because your husband is LDS. You want to support your husband thats great. However I think you can support him without becoming a Mormon. I dont know about you but I would not enjoy doing something I do not believe in. From the sounds of it you have good intentions but I think that if you have doubts about the Book of Mormon or the WoW that maybe the church is not right for you at this time. Who knows maybe down the road you will grow a testimony I do not know only time will tell. Anyways thats my two cents, I am curious to see what others post here as well. Cheers Tyler
  9. I would have to say that this thread is quite interesting to read. I am young and do not know much but I do know that travelling has opened up my eyes to the world. I have lived in Europe for 3 years now, been to over 23 countries in that time in Europe, Asia and Africa and each place is unique. There are nice and rude people everywhere, it just depends on where you look. Travel opens ones eyes up to so many different cultures than our own, for example like some people have said the Europeans take forever at meal times. They are also much more laid back and do not try to fit in 25 hours in a day like some of us back home do. With travel I have also seen how lucky we really are as some places in the Middle East and Africa are just above the poverty line. Anyways I would just like to say that I found this thread quite interesting and I look forward to reading other peoples posts :)
  10. Ah finally you have said something that is correct. In case you did not pick it up Vort was not being serious.
  11. Kiley I can somewhat relate to what you are going through. I thankfully have a ward that is very opening so I cannot relate fully to what you are going through. I can relate however about the friends not wanting anything to do with you. Some of my friends or people who I thought were my friends have stopped keeping in contact with me because I attend this church. Thankfully my closer buddies understand that this means a lot to me and they are okay with it and are more accepting. I also had the blessing to of been friends with several LDS members at my school and so I have them as support, we have even become closer. My advice to you is like what people have said, just be friendly and be the better person. Give it time I am sure you will make a smooth transition. If not see if there is another ward in your area and see about the possibility of you attending there. I wish you luck and all the best. Tyler
  12. Haha yeah Kiley the guys in North America would be all over you. Jbs "cheeah boi" means "yeah boy" or in other terms she is saying chocolate and movies are great or awesome. :) Tyler
  13. I would have to agree with Jbs here. I would rather date an intelligent girl who was slightly less attractive then say a beautiful blonde girl who has as much intelligence as a brick wall. I have seen that video and just shook my head that some people are actually like that. Our society is doomed lol.
  14. Like people have stated above, looks do count to some extent but they are not everything. Just meet as many people as you can, let your good qualities stand out and eventually you will find the right guy who will love you for who you are. Good Luck :) Tyler
