  1. well we have sisters at this time so no hugs from me there but they hug my wife and daughter all the time when saying their goodbyes. might be a regional thing like the wheat.
  2. I stand corrected I wasnt paying attention to those dates and they should be 1900 to 1914 there have been alot of posts bordering on criticism so I want to make something clear. I am not looking for hear-say. What my goal was is simple, to see if anyone had any hard facts any links to talks and or ordinances refering to my subject. I made mention that my wife was told by the bishop when she refered to it all basically that well it was a long time ago. for some people thats great but I like to know more I am looking for dates and talks and the such not just what people think. Thank you to all that have posted. there have been some really good links to talks that my wife and I have both enjoyed.
  3. I remember reading a story about a woman giving a blessing and stating something to the effect of "bye the authority of my husbands priesthood" or something similar but I cant seem to find it again. Is it the story of sister Snow and her Oxen? Has anyone else heard of this or anything similar that has any proof other then something we have heard. like a conference talk or such?
  4. I am looking for any information Gospel Doctrine on the following issue. Now what I am going to talk about gets a bit deep and can be confusing. I will try to keep it clear. OK where to start, My wife was in relief Society and a Question was asked. She admitted to me later she only caught part of what was asked and wishes she had never said anything at all. The question had to do with women giving healing blessings through their husbands priesthood authority if the husband is not present. My wife answered that their have been instances in the church where this has happened but didn't get much further then that before she was pounced upon and mauled. Needless to say she is very embarrassed. Now it does not end there. Someone went to the bishop who then called the Relief Society President. This Sister then informed my wife she mistaken in her belief and it went down hill from there. Now my wife has done a lot of research on many things and she happened to find a few articles from earlier leaders of the church talking about sisters and healing blessings and priesthood authority and healings of Faith and such. What she found goes a long way in explaining what she was trying to say but it is very old, and I mean 1900 to 1914 (edited dates) kind of old and I have not been able to find anything recent that touches on this subject. Now we have talked to our Bishop and his explanation was simple well that was a long time ago. Well I am sorry I need something more then that. So if there is anyone out there that can help me find anything that has to do with wives using their husbands priesthood authority or standing in and laying on hands with the husband while giving a blessing. I do have the Talks and may even have a link to find some of what I was talking about earlier I just do not have access to it at the moment so if you want it let me know and I will get it to you. Thank you in advance for your time.

I was working at a school K thru 12 when a teachers aid saw me in the hall and told me about the first plane. Many of us were standing there watching when the second one hit. Alot of scared children and adults that day so many questions I just couldnt answer.
  6. Being as our ward is such a distance from the Stake building that we go to church at our children actually use the high school. there is a ward that uses the Church Building but their school boundries run in that area and there is a bus that the youth can catch to get to school.
  7. There may be an issue with her about the Seminary being held at the public school, She just isnt letting us know about it. as for talking to my daughter of course we do... I am using this thread more as a sounding board listning to what people have to say and seeing if there is more I can say or do to connect with my daughter trying to understand her isnt easy for sure and thats all I am trying to do.
  8. Some questions Royal: Does your daughter feel that she might be missing out on other things, having to go to bed early, that might be making her dread Seminary? Is it the "academic" part of Seminary that she might not be looking forward to? - since EFY, etc look more like social/activity based events. Is she a morning person or a night owl? M. This is the first year my daughter gets to stay up till 10 and no we leave it up to her if she wants to go to bed earlier then that. one plus with home school is if she gets all her work done she has free time in the afternoon and if she wanted could easily take a short nap. I dont see her fearing the academics at all unless they are going over math then she might have a few problems lol. as for the is she a day or night kinda person oh most assuradly shes a night owl. so am I but we all must learn our limits and face the dawn even if its noon when we do.
  9. That is just killer funny you go girl free those gnomes !!!
  10. Honestly I think now is not a good time to be bad mouthing the man for anything he has done period!!! Shanstress have a little respect please and try not to take everything so personal. This is about a good man who died I give my respects to Him and my heart felt sympathy to his family. I respect the man and cheer him for the life he lived the excitement he showed and the obvious love he showed for his work and his family. I hope we can all live a life like that. let us remember the old saying if you cant say something nice dont say anything at all shall we.
  11. This isnt about my fears of whether my daughter will leave the LDS Faith If anything its her rebelling against me and her mother not wanting to do something we consider important but that she for now sees as a pain. We wish her to go to Seminary for so many reasons a better understanding of the church and its doctrin a part of it yes but I believe there is also something learned and gained by doing it and acomplishing the task of getting up early working to learn the scriptures and learning the values we as her parents cherish. Its interesting because she loves EFY and Super Saturday and Young Women on wednsday she is always ready and willing and happy on sunday for church, never a complaint there but so adament about not wanting the Seminary class kinda frustrating actually.
  12. Id love to talk about this more Heather (seriously thinking about making a new Genaral topic) Probably not here though what do you think new Topic or would it be one of those Flame war topics best not even started? opinions?
  13. So you know I have no problem with talking about homeschooling just tired of the negative talkers. I will talk with anyone that have serious questions even those that question why as long as its an honest question and not one to start an argument. as for the the ADHD and medication that was mentioned. My daughter was diagnosed with ADD and we have done MANY things to try not to medicate but for a short time we ended up having to a little over a year until we noticed changes in her and stopped she still has some attention problems but dosnt need the meds anymore. of course that is another thing we have to take into account with her decisions not to do seminary. I just wonder if other parents have gone through this with their daughters or sons at this age. might have to track Ben down I think he has a few daughters around this age and see if hes been through it.
  14. Yes I hear you shanstress and I have read those articles and if I was asked if my daughter was a morning person I would say not a chance. But (you knew that was comming right?) I am not so old that I dont remember what it was like when i was a kid 5 or 6 am early mornings late nights and so on. I sometimes think its funny how all the sudden todays children dont have enough chemicals in their bodies to do the things we did and our parents and grandparents did and have been doing for the last 100 + years..... Well this is a good topic for another thread lol. and yes I believe children need rest and more then 5 or 6 hours but if she can get up early to watch a cartoon or go meet her friends then dog gone it she can get up early to do seminary.
  15. Why would you assume that someone would reply with a negative comment on home schooling? M. Maureen I wish it wasnt easy for me to assume someone will but we have been homeschooling for many years and there is always someone that will start the negatives when they hear about it. In and out of the church. I could write a book I swear. I just wanted to put it up front "if you dont have anything nice to say then keep it to yourself"
