  1. When you are at tithing settlement they do not ask you if you pay 10% of your annual income to tithing... they ask if you are a full tithe payer.... Now you have to ask yourself why?? Ill tell you why, because its between the lord and yourself. Just because you do it one way does not mean others do it that way or even should. So you should stop being so self righteous and pretentious.
  2. Thank you for this contribution to the thread. The quote really does say it all.
  3. So what is the difference is a business deducts their cost of gasoline to opperate, and if I were to deduct my gas that I had to spend to get to work? Its the same thing.
  4. So I have always paid my tithing on my Net take home pay. 10% is what I have paid for a long time. This is an extremely large portion of my income but I have always done it. I have a friend who is investifating the church and considering starting to pay tithes which is great! However, he brought up a good point to me that has me questioning how I am paying my tithing. Below is an exert from a conference talk by Daniel L. Johnson from October 2006 So what is a tithing? The Lord has given us His definition: “And this shall be the beginning of the tithing of my people. And after that, those who have thus been tithed shall pay one-tenth of all their interest annually; and this shall be a standing law unto them forever.” 2Please note that the tithe is not just any freewill offering, nor is it a 20th or some other fraction of our annual interest or income. President Howard W. Hunter stated it this way: “The law is simply stated as ‘one-tenth of all their interest.’ Interest means profit, compensation, increase. It is the wage of one employed, the profit from the operation of a business, the increase of one who grows or produces, or the income to a person from any other source. The Lord said it is a standing law ‘forever’ as it has been in the past.” 3 From the underlined statement he says that the profit that comes from operating a business. Businesses have overhead costs that play into the profit of the business. Now if i were to look at myself as a business, someone who works to obtain money. Should i not subtract my costs of living before paying my tithing? I have to have shelter, I have to have food, I have to have a vehicle to get to and from work. I have to have health insurance. Would it not still be paying a full tithe if i subtracted these costs first and then paid tithing on the remainder? Your thoughts on this manner would be helpful.
  5. Well its pretty dang easy that if your name is on that list or someone you know to go look them up on it... If you find their account then you know. I think a little vigilantism is a good thing when it comes to the SCUM CHEATING ON THEIR SPOUSES... You fail to mention that half of the scum and only recognize the side exposing them...
  6. Hey maybe that is it. Is that word referenced anywhere else? Is that what they call earth.
  7. Hey guys, My wife and I finished reading the BOM together for the first time last year, and while reading D&C in the earlier chapters I came accross a word I am trying to remember. This is really vague so I appologize in advance, but it was a word I had not heard before, and they were referring to the "Planet Earth" but they were calling earth by another name. Does anyone know what section that is or what the word was?
  8. I respect this view point as well. I am not sure about hearing they were harmfull for second hand inhalers, because it has litterally no carcinagenics in it. Maybe I am biased because I used to smoke ciggarettes, and know how unhealthy tabacco can be for you. These are lightyears ahead as far as health concerns, granted they are addictive but it is also forcing tabacco out of the market. I am very on the fence still though.
  9. Thank you for your reply, I am with you about the purpose of E-cigs, but I am asking if it is wrong to market directly to these people. What would your opinion on that be?
  10. hrmmm... I was hoping for a little more responce than this.
  11. Please let me know your thoughts. They are all welcome.
  12. Good afternoon guys, I was hoping some of my fellow Latter Day Saints would help me on something I have been wondering about. So, I work for a reputable chemical company, and I know the business really well. I have built a lot of personal contacts, and have been able to excell in this business and some side projects of my own. Recently I have found a new market for the chemicals in which I sell. The chemicals i would be sellling are NOT bad for your health. They are actually rated at a food grade, because they go in all sorts of food and hygeine products. The new market I have been dealing with is the "E-ciggarette" market. The liquid they are "Vaping" is a mixture of the chemicals i would provide, and nicotine. Now I want to start marketing directly to these individuals because there is a gap in the market for someone of my expertise, but I am not sure if supplying these people with items I know will eventually be made into somthing I would never sell to anybody, would be moral or not. Ofcoarse I would never sell Nicotine, but my question is... is it wrong of me to sale the raw materials to the people who will make them into "e-liquid" which is ultimatly an addictive substance (the chemicals i would be selling are not addictive)???? Its almost like... is the farmer of barly wrong for selling it to the beer companies????? Please let me know
