Lightbearer's Achievements

  1. First of all if you are talking about going inside you must be a baptized member of the Church in good standing for one year. Also you must get a recommend from your Bishop and signed by the Stake President. In order to get the recommend you will need to be interviewed by the Bishop and he will determine if you are ready. Actually you do not need to wait a year if you are going to do proxy baptisms for the dead, you can get a limited use recommend for that purpose, I would check with your Bishop about it. If you just wanted to walk around the grounds you do not even need to be a member you just drop by during the times it is open. It is a beautiful experience and a great blessing.
  2. They are introducing it in our Stake and the way I understand it, it is not going to be a program instead it will be a "live" website you can access using your Membership number and Confirmation date. You can directly access the Temple records to see if the work has been done by someone else. Also as you do work in the Temple it will be automatically be updated. It sounds very exciting we had a combined Priesthood/Relief Society a few weeks back where they introduced it.
  3. The greatest symbol I have noticed in all the Temples is the two facing mirrors in the sealing rooms. How it represents eternity and how we are linked in an eternal family, to our ancestors and our decendants. This past weekend my wife and I were sealed to our adopted son, the spirit of the Lord was almost overwhelming as I contemplated the glories of eternity it makes me think of the following scripture: What more can I say but to praise the Lord and thank Him eternally for restoring the Gospel of Jesus Christ in it's fullness in our day.
  4. I first read the Isaiah chapters of the Book of Mormon just before going on my Mission... I sort of glossed over them because it was like trying to read a book of advanced Calculus in the 5th grade. But I read it several more times during my Mission and I began to comprehend some of it. I like what Nephi says about it: He explains that he knows the words are hard to understand but he also explains that they are of great worth. In addition as I read I discovered that the explainations for those chapters are given by Nephi himself for us and if we will try they do become understandable and not just poetic gibberish. I understand them much better today than I did on my Mission and the spirit helps bring out the meanings as does Nephi's explainations that usually follow the quotes.
  5. Actually I am a man and I was a single adult until I was 42. I served a Mission, had various callings and stayed active and attended Institute until they threw me out for being too old and also I attended the dreaded YSA and Single Adult activities...Singles Conferences and I was begining to think my eternal companion was a casualty in the War in Heaven until I crashed a dance at a Singles Conference that I had not signed up to attend and while there my future wife walked up to me and asked me to dance...I said yes and the rest was history. As far as disabilities are concerned do not be so quick to reject possibilities out of hand. My wife was on dyailiss (had kidney failure) and was 10 years younger than me. We met on June 8th, got engaged on July 5th and were married on September 28th of the same year. We were married in the Temple and are coming up on our 5th anniversary, and oh yes she had a kidney transplant in July of that same year we met. So do not be too quick to give up, it takes patience and faith but I promise if you remain faithful sooner or later these blessing will come if you seek them.Good luck and God bless.
  6. I believe that He was married, there is nothing that would forbid Him from being married anywhere in the scriptures. In fact it has already been suggested that He was baptized to "fullfill all righteousness" therefore He must have been sealed to a companion in the New and Everlasting Covenant of the priesthood for the following reasons: I cannot imagine anyone obtaining a kingdom of glory greater than the Lord Jesus Christ Himself. Therefore He must have entered the new and everlasting covenant in order to "fullfill all righteousness." In addition the priesthood itself is named after Him: Thus the priesthood itself is named after the Lord, He is an example of the "fullness of the priesthood" so it rather follows that He should obey His own ordinances. Listen to the following: Here the Savior declares that this is His law, I cannot believe that He would not be obedient to His own law. As for who He married or when or where, that is all speculation, but the fact that He did abide by this law must be a fact.
  7. The answer to this question as it pertains to us in these last days is stated in the following scripture: I think this quote pretty much says it all.
  8. Yes the Garden of Eden was a "real place" and the fall of Adam was a real occurance not some mythological parable. That it was actually a place is indicated by the following: At least that is how the scripture reads. Also it indicates that the Garden while a real place was on a different plain of existance (Terrestrial as opposed to a Telestial sphere?) The following also indicates the same or why the need for an Angel with a flaming sword? I can only see these words as being literal or plain as can be made unto our understanding. As for Evolution I am in the McConkie-Joseph Fielding Smith camp, I do not believe it, and I do not think the words the Lord has given us should be understood in a "mythical" or metaphorical way to give place to so-called Scientific theories. I know this is offensive to some but I put my trust first in Prophets and Apostles rather than scholars or theorists. People are free to believe what they will but to me the naturalistic explainations of the origins of man are speculative on the part of scientists.
  9. All three are critical to developing our full potenial as a Latter-day Saint. Friendship is one of the fundementals of what Mormonism is all about according to the Prophet Joseph. Without friends and family all would be in vain. The other two points are very important as well, we need to serve our brothers and sisters which is a natural outgrowth of friendship, we also learn to love whom we serve. And without spiritual nourishment we will spiritually starve to death. The scriptures and the words of the living prophets is the "iron rod" which we must cling to in order to make it to the tree of life which represents the "love of God" and all of these help us on our journey to "endure to the end."
  10. Welcome, actually I am a Professional Photographer myself. Good to have you here.
  11. Like coming to Farpoint Station for the first time Number one?
  12. Yes he is really bad and he became bad because of his own pride and arrogance. The scripture in Moses in the Pearl of Great Price states: Note here that Satan sought to destroy the world, he unwittingly furthered God's plans, he was not a collaborater. He has one desire in this war that started in heaven, and that is explained here: He wants us to be miserable like himself, he also wants to defy God and to "prove" that his plan (of no agency) was right all along. He still believes he was right and he does not care who he destroys or how he does it. He hates us, he hates all mankind because they have what he can never have: a body of flesh and bones and the opportunity to be exalted. That is why he tries to posses peoples bodies if they will let him. That is why he seeks to degrade God by denying He has a body, that is why he tries to portray the children of God as vile sinners who should never think they could ever become as God is...that we do not have the capacity to exercise our agency to do good. That is his evilness, he denys the plan of salvation just as he always did from the begining. Why is he called the father of lies? Why is he called the accuser of the brethern? Because that was his pattern from the begining, he also uses the barbed "IF" he tries to cause us to doubt ourselves and the word of God. He tries to neutralize faith by encouraging us to seek signs and to commit sin and to deny the witness of the Spirit of the Lord. He is more evil and more diabolical than any "19th century Christian" (or of the 21st century) could ever imagine. He is not the horned, fire breathing, pitchfork weilding monster that medival theologists paint him to be...he is much more horrible, because he was one of us, children of God the father who rejected his divine inheritance and now tries to get all of his former brothers and sisters to worship him, who is not a God of glory...because his glory is darkness to those enlightened by the Spirit of the true and living God. So yes he has become the ultimate evil, that which those who are carnally minded cannot recognize for who and what he is, that is why in our generation he loves to whisper "I am no devil for there is none." The good news is that we can overcome the wiles of the adversary through the power of faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and the priesthood of God.
  13. Probably the same ones who listen to Him at General Conference...the words of His servants the Prophet and Apostles are the words of Christ to the world. Many listen and give heed, but many mock and reject His word because of the weakness of His servants. I hope we will all listen to His voice.
  14. It would be speculation to comment on the menapause thing, but we do know that there will be no sickness, no disease, and no death (as we know it.) And best of all no sin! Everyone will have to live at least a Terrestrial law or they will not be able to stay on this earth. We also know that there will still be births (of mortal children) and our bodies will be changed (thus no death, sickness, etc.) The primary work that will be accomplished during the 1,000 years will be preaching the Gospel to those righteous enough to remain and Temple work. It will be a totally different existance than what we comprehend now. I found the following in the Gospel Principles Manual: Actually as far as righteousness is concerned it will be simular to the 200 years of peace that the Nephites enjoyed, only there is also to be the physical changes mentioned in the above quote. Hope this helps.
