  1. This debate could go on forever without either side being satisfied with an answer. De Wallen, you brirng up excellent points regarding same sex relationships, and relationships in general, and from a purely academic standpoint, it is even possible that the reasons for same sex marriage outweigh the reasons against it. The only true reason that I could state to support the viewpoint that it is wrong, would be that according to the doctrines of my church it is wrong. I hear academic reasons supporting same sex marriage on an almost daily basis (due to the large homosexual population where I live) and they make sense in my mind...but I learned long ago to trust in my faith instead of my mind when the doctrines of the church are at issue. I have been called a "sheep" and worse for this, but that is my reason for believeing what I believe. I understand if this reasoning doesn't sit well with you, and I hope that you understand that the position of the church regarding same sex marriage is not an attack personally on homosexuals, and that the church welcomes all people who are actively seeking the truth, with pure intent.
  2. The problem is that LDS women are all so wonderful and heavenly on the inside, that outside looks are the only factor left open for scrutiny.
  3. This is an interesting question, and I am eager to see what other people, much brighter than me, have to say about it. I personally think that the biggest problem with missionary work is that we don't do it. I often think of opportunities that I have had to share the gospel with people that I meet and not acted. I think that there are something like 60,000 missionaries comparred to maybe 5,000,000 ACTIVE lay members, so it would probably be quite significant if we did more to help shoulder the burden of doing missionary work.

  7. Under U.S. Intellectual Property Laws, copyrights can only be obtained for original works of authorship that are fixed in a tangible form of expression. Generally a ceremony with participants would not fall under this category. The video portion would fall under I.P. laws, but we don't really know what will be included in the television show. Any lawsuit would be questionable at best, probably resulting in years of litigation, which would exacerbate and prolong an issue that will otherwise probably blow over in less than a month.

  9. Ok, this thread has run its course and I am going to close it down. Whats that? You have to be a Moderator to do that? Don't I feel sheepish.
  10. Absolutely! You are such a creative parent. I would love to contribute.

  12. Thanks for your question. The fact is that many spiritual texts contain such "truth tests." The one in the Qu'ran goes something like this: Sura 2:23 And if you are in doubt as to that which We have revealed to Our servant, then produce a chapter (sura) like it and call on your witnesses besides Allah if you are truthful. Sura 10:38 Or do they say: He has forged it? Say: Then bring a chapter (sura) like this and invite whom you can besides Allah, if you are truthful. And of course there is the one that you mentioned in the Book of Mormon. If you pray to know the truthfulness of a book of scripture and receive an answer stating that it is not true, I would ask internally; "Is this a preconcieved notion?" "Do I truly seek the truth, or do I seek only to prove that something is not true?" Only you can answer that question, and I don't presume to be the judge of you sincerity in seeking the truth. I can tell you that I have prayed concerning the Book of Mormon, and recieved revelation that it was truly written by prophets of God. Other people from different faiths have had similar revelations regarding their own spiritual texts as well, so the only advice that I can give is to ask sincerely, with a pure heart and no preconcieved notions, and follow the revelation that you recieve. No one can recieve it for you. I hope these ramblings answered you question.
